A 15-year-old boy and his father discovered a safe full of cash while they were out magnet fishing. This trendy activity is where a person uses a strong magnet attached to the end of a rope to find metal objects in bodies of water.
Many people who participate in this hobby are aiming to find valuable items, and the magnets are usually strong enough to pick up items like guns, bicycles, and even grenades. The popularity of the hobby increased in 2021 when people started multiple YouTube channels sharing their adventures.
The teenage boy, George Tindale, and his father, 52-year-old Kevin Tindale, live in Grantham, Lincolnshire, in the UK. They have a YouTube channel called "Magnetic G" where they share their fishing adventures and finds.
In early September, the father-son duo pulled a safe out of the River Witham. It contained 2,500 Australian dollars ($1,800), a shotgun certificate, and credit cards that expired in 2004.

By using the name on the cards, they were able to find the safe's owner. It belonged to Rob Everett, and they discovered that it'd been stolen during an office robbery in 2000 and dumped into the river.
“I remember at the time, they smashed into a cabinet to get to the safe,” Rob shared. “I was just upset that there was a nice pen on my desk, a Montblanc, that was never recovered.”
The robber, a teenage boy, was found shortly after the crime due to leaving behind a cap with his name stitched inside. The father-son duo met with Rob to return the safe soon after finding it.
He offered them a small reward, and also offered the 15-year-old an internship at his business because of his math skills that were shown off in the YouTube video. “What’s good about it is, I run a wealth management company and … I’d love him to work for us."
“I was just amazed that they’d been able to track me down,” the safe's owner continued. “There are some really nice and good people in this world. They could have kept the money, they could have said they attempted to get hold of me.”
“There’s a big lesson there," Rob concluded. "It teaches George that doing good and being honest and giving back is actually more rewarding than taking.”
