Stuart Smith from the U.K. had his worst fear realized when his dog, Kahn, disappeared from his home around on October 15. Kahn is a one-year-old Leonberger, who Stuart has had since he was just a puppy.
Most people settle for hanging signs and simply spreading the word about their beloved lost dog.
Stuart, however, is taking much more serious measures. In fact, Stuart and his partner Sharron have both put their lives, "on hold" until Kahn is back at home with them where he belongs.
Although Kahn could have traveled hundreds of miles by now, Stuart is convinced that he's still in the local area.
Stuart has even been sleeping on a fly-tipped mattress in the woods where he thinks Kahn is hiding out. He hopes to create a scent that will attract the lost dog back to him.
The desperate owner has also taken to analyzing and smelling animal droppings to determine whether they might belong to Kahn.

Stuart says, "He is very special to me. I’ve had him since he was a puppy. I don’t have any children, so when he went missing it just broke me."

We can all understand Stuart's desperation and admire his determination. Stuart has hired a helicopter, climbed up a church tower to get a birds-eye view of his town, and taken various other extreme measures to find Kahn.

Stuart continues, "I have done absolutely everything I can think of to find Kahn – and if anyone suggests anything else new to me and I will do that too."

Stuart has even hired a volunteer canine tracker as a backup in hopes of finding his beloved dog.

Kahn weighs over 100 pounds and is about three feet tall when he's standing on all fours.
Chances are, this big boy is eating food that's been left out for other animals, and scavenging from residential areas.

Since Kahn has gone missing, Stuart has been spending a lot of time in the woods looking for any trace of his dog.

Identifying Kahn's paw prints is one way he does this. Stuart says, "They're like finger-prints, but not quite as accurate, so when someone finds a paw-print, I compared it to a print of Kahn's."

He has also familiarized himself with the distinct smell of different animal droppings in hopes of sniffing up Kahn's.
Stuart explains, "The reason I've smelt animal poo is because badger poo looks similar to dog poo- and fox poo is generally smaller, but the main big difference is the smell."
