‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ Star Eduardo Xol Dies After Reported Stabbing

A man who died from his injuries after a reported stabbing has been identified as Eduardo Xol, 58. Xol was a designer on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and worked on 65 episodes of the reality television show between 2005 and 2012, per IMDb. According to a release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Xol was injured on September 10, 2024, and died on September 20 in Palm Springs, California. A specific cause of death is not listed in the press release.

According to TMZ, Xol died at Desert Regional Medical Center. He reportedly called for help after an apparent stabbing, and "had significant injuries." Xol's mother also confirmed his death to TMZ, and his family shared a statement with the outlet.

"We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of our beloved Eduardo Xol. As his family, we know that his kindness has touched the lives of so many," the family's statement shared with the outlet read. "We ask for that kindness returned now allowing our privacy to be respected as we process our grief. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in Eduardo’s name to the Lupus Foundation of America as he spent so much of his life in the service of others."

Police said that when Xol told officers he had been stabbed, he didn't name the person who allegedly stabbed him, The Desert Sun reported. However, a suspect was later arrested. Richard Joseph Gonzales, 34, has been arrested for suspicion of attempted murder, according to the news outlet. Following Xol's death, police have now requested a murder charge.

In addition to appearing on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Xol also appeared in several telenovelas including Acapulco, Cuerpo y Alma, and Sentimientos Ajenos as an actor. He studied theater at UCLA and was also a musician, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Richard Perez-Feria, former editor-in-chief of People en Español, shared a tribute to Xol on Instagram.

"It’s nearly incomprehensible that I’m writing this post as a goodbye to someone who has been so present, so important in my life," Perez-Feria wrote. "When I first learned that Eduardo Xol had passed, I went numb. It was impossible to process that information as it didn’t square with my thousands of experiences with him."

As he grapples with the shock of losing Xol, he encouraged everyone to remember Xol for who he was rather than focusing on how he died.

"Please don’t ask me how or why at this point…what matters most is who he was: A talented, beautiful, passionate friend, brother, son and partner," he wrote. "The millions of laughs, hopes and secrets we shared remain at the fore of my thoughts. I want to honor my dear friend and celebrate his life as one that mattered to so many. He certainly mattered to me."
