What to Know
Katie Miller recently took to social media to complain about something California Governor Gavin Newsom is doing, seemingly failing to notice that President Donald Trump is doing the same thing. In an X post on January 19, Miller, who is married to White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller, bashed Newsom for going to the World Economic Forum in Davos. Meanwhile, the president also plans on attending.
It seems like Miller either didn’t do her research before posting the rant, or she purposely chose not to mention that her husband’s boss will also be there (not only that, but Trump is also only the second sitting president to ever attend in person). In response to Miller’s post, someone shared an article about the president going to Davos, writing, “You gotta double check this stuff before you pop off.”
Miller slammed Newsom for not being “America First.”
Sure, it’s possible that Miller was specifically upset about Newsom attending the World Economic Forum. In her post, she included a screenshot of an article that read, “Gov. Gavin Newsom says he’ll tell Davos economic forum what he thinks of Trump.” While it’s not hard to understand why Newsom would feel a certain way about this, her explanation of the whole thing suggested that she didn’t realize Trump was also going.
“Of course Gavin Newsom is going to Davos,” she wrote. “Nothing quite says America First like commiserating to the crowd of the World’s Elites. You either stand up for America or you should sit down.” Umm, OK? But Trump is also expected to speak there on Wednesday, January 21.
Of course Gavin Newsom is going to Davos.

Multiple people pointed this out to her.
In response to Miller’s post, one critic used her exact words but replaced Newsom’s name with Trump’s name. Another critic added, “Your dear leader is going too you clown.” And someone else wrote, “Of course rumpy is going for his THIRD time.” Trump also attended the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2018 and 2020. U.S. presidents have historically not attended in person. In fact, only two sitting presidents have: Former President Bill Clinton and Trump. In an opinion essay for the New York Times, President of the Council on Foreign Relations Michael B.G. Froman even called Trump “the Ultimate Davos Man.”
So, understandably, people had questions for Miller, like, “What are you saying?” and “What point are you trying to make?” Someone else questioned, “Trump’s going to Davos. Is he pandering to the elites?” While some people called Miller out for seemingly not realizing that Trump was also attending, others assumed she knew but conveniently left that detail out of her post. “Who else is going, Katie?” one of them asked.
Like Miller, others in the comments either did not see the problem with Trump attending, or did not seem to realize that he planned on going. Seemingly agreeing with Miller’s criticism of Newsom, one person argued that “Americans don’t relate to ‘Davos.'” Regardless, critics think Miller should be embarrassed.
